The Annual General Meeting of the Gravesend Regatta Committee will take place on the 21st January 2008. Officers will be
elected to run the committee for the next year.

The committee meets once a month to discuss forthcoming events, to co-ordinate the running of the regattas (including the
shore events) and the single races. Committee members give a Shore Report and a Boat Report. A Sub-committee has
been put together to help with publicity for the rowing events.

We have in the past organised a Quiz Night to raise funds for the repair of the boats and to purchase a new motor boat.

We hold a Presentation Evening during September, this includes trophies for the winners of races throughout the season
and are normally presented by the current Mayor of Gravesham. The evening includes a disco and raffle.

HELP............LOST BACKBOARD!!

Can you help???? The committee own a backboard called the Robert Mckellar, which was last seen in the Phoenix Public
House when Syd Wright was the landlord. The Phoenix is long gone but was on the corner of Brunswick Walk, Gravesend. If
anyone knows the wherabouts of this piece of Gravesend History, please contact us by telephone or via the website e-mail
address.

Below is a photograph of a similar backboard.

We are very lucky in Gravesend to have the RNLI lifeboat station 'on our doorstep'. The crew normally perform a rescue
display for us at each of our Regattas and this is always an impressive event to watch. As the organisation survives solely
on donations, they have a fund-raising stall on the promenade too. To help with much needed funds, we have, in the
past, organised sponsored rows. The first event took place in September 2002 and was to the Higham Buoy and back
(7miles). During the years 2002 to 2005 our committee, crews, and their friends and families have raised over £2000.

2006 and 2007 saw the rise of another race which always encourages charity sponsorship, the Great River Race. Crews,
in Gravesend Regatta skiffs, race from Richmond to Greenwich (22miles). 2006 saw Demelza Children's Hospice in
Sittingbourne benefit from sponsorship and 2007 was the turn of The Diabetic Society.
